性質：無色液體。分子量154.25。密度0.896 g/cm3。沸點205℃。折射率1.450。微溶于水。溶于大多數有機溶劑。以1:3溶于70%乙醇，溶于油質香料。有清涼的薄荷樣香氣，木香底蘊。香氣散發，不甚持久，口味是清涼，但亦有不愉快的苦味。
生產方法編輯
主要采用氧化法。以薄荷醇為原料，經氧化反應而得。
也可從天然薄荷、老鸛草、芳須芒草等天然原料中，可經真空蒸餾切取204-212℃餾分，將其轉變成肟或縮氨基脲，進行重結晶，分離出純的薄荷酮或異薄荷酮。薄荷酮可由胡薄荷酮或胡椒酮還原而得。
主要用途編輯
酮類合成香料。主要用作薄荷、薰衣草、玫瑰等香精的調合香料。也用于香葉天竺葵油等的調配。
亦可用于合成青蒿素。
是配制香葉油的香料，微量用于香茅醇中或用于玫瑰等花香香精中，有提調花香之作用，適量用于薰衣草、香薇、辛香等型的香料中。是食用涼味香精的原料，用于果香精如懸鉤子等，可提調香味，并增加鮮清而減少過甜的口味。也是牙膏賦香的好香料。
