化學性質
苯甲醛的化學性質與脂肪醛類似，但也有不同。苯甲醛不能還原費林試劑；用還原脂肪醛時所用的試劑還原苯甲醛時，除主要產物苯甲醇外，還產生一些四取代鄰二醇類化合物和均二苯基乙二醇。在氰化鉀存在下，兩分子苯甲醛通過授受氫原子生成安息香。苯甲醛還可進行芳核上的親電取代反應，主要生成間位取代產物，例如硝化時主要產物為間硝基苯甲醛。 [2] 空氣中極易被氧化，生成白色苯甲酸。可與酰胺類物質反應，生產醫藥中間體。
