N-甲酰嗎啉（N-formylmorpholine,簡稱NFM）是一種重要的有機溶劑和精細化工原料。常溫下為無色透明液體。具有酰胺的化學性質，其水溶液在酸或堿存在的條件下易水解成嗎啉和甲酸，水溶液呈弱堿性。

N-甲酰嗎啉不僅具有選擇性好、熱穩定性和化學穩定性好、無毒、無腐蝕性等優點，而且由于其結構的特殊性，能與脂肪族烴類、芳烴以及水等互溶，具有良好的溶解萃取性能，因此被廣泛應用于天然氣及天然氣凝析油、汽油、合成氣、煙道氣的脫硫，合成纖維、有機合成等工藝中；
同時由于N-甲酰嗎啉溶解芳烴后，能大大降低芳烴的揮發度，提高芳烴與非芳烴之間的分離系數，因此被廣泛應用于芳烴（如苯、甲苯、二甲苯等）與石蠟烴、丁烯、甲乙酮抽提等工藝中，可使精苯純度高達99.99%，甲苯純度達 99.7%，二甲苯純度達 99.0%，并且溶劑消耗少、不需添加 pH 調節劑，具有對設備無腐蝕、節能、環境污染小等突出的優點。
另外，N-甲酰嗎啉可以在聚酯塑料的發泡工業中用作催化劑，在精細化工領域用作甲酰化試劑，在醫藥工業用作藥物合成反應的溶劑，并且都具有特別優良的性能，也是合成藥物中間體的重要原料。
