【性狀】白色結晶性粉末；無臭，味微苦。本品在乙醇或中略溶，在水中幾乎不溶；在稀氫氧化鈉溶液中溶解，在稀酸中幾乎不溶。
【藥理作用】本品為化學合成的苯甲酸衍生物。能抑制腎小管對尿酸鹽的再吸收，促進尿酸排泄，降低血漿尿酸鹽的濃度?？捎糜诼酝达L，對急性痛風無效(因無鎮(zhèn)痛及消炎作用)。又能抑制青霉素類、頭孢菌素類、對氨基水楊酸等藥物的排泄，故與青霉素、頭孢菌素合用，可增加血藥濃度，延長其藥效，并可減少其藥量。臨床用于治療與高尿酸血癥有關的痛風性關節(jié)炎。也可作為青霉素、頭孢菌素治療的增效劑，以提高此類藥物的血藥濃度。
